Free child care at work? Getting to have lunch with your child during the workday?
It’s a perk that works, according to a newBoston Globe article on six workplace benefits that are “offered by some companies on the 2025 list of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts.”
As the article explains about one parent, “Jack Sherman has exceptional company on his 50-minute drive into work as a project executive: his 5-year-old son, Henry, who attends a day care run by Sherman’s employer, Sunrise Erectors.”
Sunrise Erectors is a facade contracting company that was co-founded by Jeffrey Erickson, who asked his daughter, a teacher, to help him create a free child care center located in the company’s Canton, Mass., headquarters.
Sunrise Childcare Center has an infant classroom, a toddler classroom, and a preschool-aged classroom, according to its website, and it is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care.
The center welcomes children and grandchildren. And it saves employees thousands of dollars a year in child care costs.
“It’s been an incredible benefit,” Sherman tells the Globe. “How many dads can have lunch with their kids during the day and tuck them in for naps if they want to?”
